Support St. Jude Hospital Party and Fundraiser.

Party With a Purpose

On April 27th our  volunteer group got a day of fun and community work at Galveston beach at the fundraiser for St. Jude Hospital . It was a perfect day with the perfect weather and a lot of fun!

Markus Isaacson, Katrina Sawyer, Jonny Halow, Catalina Vasquez, Lucia Motta, Doris Xu and Tyler Nokleby raised total $150 dollars which will be donated to the St. Jude Foundation to support its mission  helping families and kids with cancer.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way in the understanding, treatment and the elimination of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries they make, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors or scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.  We are proud to be part of  St. Jude mission!

How your donation helps:

  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

Thank you for your support! Together we can help St. Jude change the world.

Tri-M Society in action !

Congratulations to the Awty Tri-Music Honor Society on the success of their first concert. Students Adrian Morales, Robin Dumas, Sebastian Peralta, Jeremy Jason, and Katerina Sawyer, all performed at the Vosswood Nursing Center on February 16th. Residents and staff of the nursing home welcome group of students bringing life music, singing and smiles. In fact, the staff have even requested for the group to come back to perform for them again. The concert was planned and organized by Katerina Sawyer (president of Tri-M Honor Society), under the supervision of Mr. Peguero.
Members of Tri-M put a lot of effort into rehearsals, coordination, and putting the show together, but according to Katerina Sawyer, they would be happy to do it again, for the chance to bring smiles to the faces of residents and nurses . There are more performances to come this year and next year, and hopefully more members of the Tri-M Honor Society and the Awty community will join in on this volunteering project.

Music Doing Good Press release

Last Week Houston based  Music Doing Good Foundation have announced list of winners of 2019 Scholarship award for the musical talent.

Congratulations to AWTY Junior, Katrina Sawyer. She, along with the several other young Houston musicians, was selected for prestigious Music Doing Good Scholarship Award 2019. Scholarships were awarded to several musically talented students at the  ceremony on Saturday, April 13  in Denney Theatre at HSPVA.

Music Doing Good is a Houston based group lead by well-known philanthropist, Marie Bosarge, dedicated to help “grow” Houston’s young talents. To select the finalists, a panel of experts judge submitted audition recordings and made their decisions based on the quality of the music and they take into consideration the applicants needs and their ideas about “doing good” in the community with their music.

Katrina Sawyer is the Tri-Music Honor  society president and an aspiring student of alto and tenor saxophone as well as the clarinet. She is studying music under tutelage of Jason Peguero and Aaron Montes and Tatyana Kazmiruk. She is a leader of Polka Dots community service project, organizing musical performances for local hospitals and retirement homes.

In Katrina’s own words, “I felt really privileged to be recognized by Music Doing Good, because it’s not only the award itself but also getting to meet famous and talented musicians from this organization and having a chance to perform with them.” She is planning to use the award money to finance her musical studies and to learn to be a better performer.

Tomball German Spring Festival

They say that March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, well that definitely wasn’t the case this year!  This week end March 29-31st  has been a lion’s share of fun with the music of the Alex Meixner Band and the Das Ist Lustig Band fresh in our ears. We performing on the Ziegenbock stage and managing the other performers (including dancers, high school German clubs, and other bands) It’s one of my favorite events!  The whole schedule all weekend is jam packed with a little bit of everything.  Friday night is the only time Matt Tonlentino with his Royal Klobasneks will be there, you can find him at the Telgte Dancehall; Don’t miss his amazing dance music with the nicest smooth concrete dance floor at the festival.  Alex Meixner Band is there all three days, Auf Geht’s is there Saturday and Sunday, and I heard a rumor that Ryan Barker with be playing with them on Saturday.  www.tomballgermanfest.org
